To have a vision one must start by knowing what one wants. But to find out what one wants is a difficult process. Mark Twain said “I can teach anybody how to get what they want out of life. The problem is that I can’t find anybody who can tell me what they want”. Working to know what one wants is the beginning of the coaching process. It is a task which is not easily accomplished by oneself. But the rewards of knowing our wants are immense. They enable us to build a vision of what we want to attain in the future, and by focusing on that vision the odds are that it will become a reality.

“Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your Vision is the promise of what you shall one day be. Your Ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil.”
— James Allen

A vision has generally been at the source of humanity’s greatest achievements. Your vision will determine who you become as well. Without a vision one just works away and rarely scores something meaningful to us. Yes, we do a lot of small things, but if we do them with our vision in mind, these small things will contribute to our progress towards what we want. And let us remember something quite important: where we come from is nowhere near as important as where we are going.
